Climbing Mt Madison in winter uses the most common summer route, the Valley Way Trail. Conditions encountered in the cold season increase the challenge considerably however. The trail breaks treeline at about 4,400 feet and hazards imposed by exposure to weather and avalanche potential increase considerably.
